In this Research Community call Momcilo (Martin to his friends) shares an introduction to Pierre Bourdieu and his analysis of society as a continuously spinning cycle of re-production of itself and its participants.
Individuals are born into the society and through socialisation adopt the norms, values, practices, and expectations of the social environment.
While we think of ourselves to be rational and logical beings, Bourdieu claims that the very sense of what's rational, neutral, natural or common sense is a social construct.
The society consists of social structures and social fields and within those there's a continuous struggle for power and influence.
Individuals engage within social fields to earn different types of capital and assume objective positions that give them a say in the shaping of the world.
This entire process is shrouded in mystery and he calls it Misrecognition.
Understanding those blindspots can shine light on unexpected opportunities and help us steer the society towards a better world.
