Art of Impermanence Exhibition
On a stormy day in April the exhibition Art of Impermanence was opened.
On April 27th Sylvie Barbier, Paz Perlman, Max Pugh and Luc Waring hosted the Art of Impermanence exhibition.
Installation by Sylvie Barbier
What prompted Sylvie to curate this exhibition was the passing of her father in January 2024. For the exhibition she created an installation called "I am of the nature to die" exploring her relationship to her father's passing in regards to the Buddhist teachings of the five remembrances.
I am of the nature to grow old. I cannot escape old age.
I am of the nature to grow ill. I cannot escape sickness.
I am of the nature to die. I cannot escape death.
I will be separated from everything and everyone I hold dear.
My only true possession is my actions.
She invited other artists to include their relationship to impermanence to communicate the universal dimension of this theme.
The exhibition opened with an acoustic concert by Paul Tingen, followed by a performance art "Cosmic Birth" by Sylvie Barbier.
The exhibition was composed of a projection of "Nothing will ever stop the music" by Max Pugh who allowed us to dive into our difficult and emotional relationship to the planet.
I give you my word" by Paz Perlman was an installation work that gave us an opportunity to reflect on our relationship to the words we speak in regards to the earth.
Paintings by Luc Waring
Luc Waring created a series of colourful paintings of Grim Reapers, as death is the most powerful reminder of our impermanent nature.
This exhibition will be followed by the first publication of the Life Itself magazine on the theme of impermanence. If you wish to submit artworks or writing please email: sylvie@lifeitself.org.
